4 Fox Run Sturbridge, MA

There has been so much going on lately and it seems like I need a national holiday to have enough time to get anything done. So without further ado, I would like to show you around the latest house assignment I did for Sharon Power of ReMax Professional Associates. This was the nicest home I have had the privilege to shoot. I don’t think you will have too much trouble agreeing…

3 St George Rd. Brimfield, MA.

When I pulled up to the house I fell in love. This is my idea of living out in the woods (well, if I have to live in Massachusetts anyway). The house had the big country beer drankin’ porch that I have always wanted and then had a screened in section where it wrapped around the back of the house. The living room was cozy and warm with a nice gas fire place and beautiful hardwood floors. The master bedroom was huge with an office area and a walk in master bath that was incredible.

Take a look at the photos and try not to fall in love yourself.

Check out the listing as well  – you never know!

They’re purty good musicians (pt.2)

sorry for the hiatus folks. Here we go,

The following photos are from Seed, a band out of Connecticut and Sam Kininger, a certified funk genius and all-around great American. The rest of the night was awesome – and some good pics were procured in the process.

They’re purty good musicians…

…so goes a line at the end of the Joe’s Garage album by Frank Zappa. I got to  photograph some local heroes lately and I wanted you folks to meet them.

I met these guys through a friend of my wife; he plays drums for the band. Quite well, actually. We got to talking, maybe a little drankin’, and they asked if I would shoot some photos of them.

Well, heck yeah, who doesn’t want to get their Annie Leibovitz on periodically?

The show was at Tammany Hall in Worcester, MA which I had never been to before. They were opening for Seed, a band out of CT that was really good and Sam Kininger, who is just an awesome sax player who had a pretty hot “rockin’ combo” himself! By the time it was over, I got some really good shots of all three bands. It might have been colder than a well-diggers tuchas outside, but it was hotter than the gates of hell inside!

Part 2 of this missive to follow – stay tuned.

Professional Photography Sells Real Estate

I ran across a great, somewhat sarcastic article about the importance of professional photography when attempting to sell real estate. Here is the link:

Latest News-

Hey kids,

There is a lot going on this month, between the job, the photography, the weather and just in general.

First, I have shot a christening and a home already. The great model shoot is Sunday and I have been busy preparing for that. I will put my deposit down on the photography studio collaborative thing my friends are putting together in Worcester – I can’t wait to start using that space! I was accepted into the Holden Golden Givers BNI group as the photographer and I look forward to being an active member of that group.  I already have two referrals and I anticipate being able to pass them business as well. The dentist already likes me! : )

That all on top of my antipathy for all things cold and snow related; we just saw the biggest snowstorm I have ever witnessed – which I guess isn’t saying much hailing from parts near ATL, but when they close schools in Boston, I think I can safely say that even hard core, brain damaged New Englanders think it sucks too.

I am also concerned for the drain- circleage of my PC. It’s on the way out folks and I have been preparing for its ultimate shuffle. Hopefully, in can be rebuilt for relatively cheap money.

So, since my PC is on the slippery slope to electronic hell – the pickens will be slim this iteration.

The following is the home in Rutland I shot for a client. I love this house and this is one of those moments where everything just fell into place.

Happy New Year

Hey kids,

2010 was the year I decided to take my photography pro. 2011 hopefully, will prove that wasn’t such a bad idea. I am actually lining up some more work now as I am typing this.

I have been pretty busy the last few weeks, shooting and editing photos, successfully joining a networking group, and promoting a new photo studio concept in Worcester that I will be a part of.  I have met some really cool photographers and models that I now call friends.

Mrs. Preves has quite a bit to do with all of this, as none of it would have been possible without her support. She is so cool…I love you baby.

So without further ado: here are a few faves from the past year. No particular order or reason, just really liked them:

Have a great new year!

New Direction – Website Re-vamp

Greetings y’all,

It has been some time since the last post, which has given me the ability to get a bunch of stuff done. I have been shooting a lot of portrait type work lately. It got me thinking how much I love creating people images. I still love my “house portraits”, but I seem to be getting recognized and asked more about portraiture.

So after much wailing and gnashing of teeth, I have decided to take a direction more into editorial and portraiture (photo -journalistic style please!) I still enjoy real estate photography and always will, but I have re-vamped the website to more express the work I have been involved with lately…

Check out the site – let me know what you think.

Merry Christmas folks!

John

Preparing Your Home For Photography

Congratulations! You have decided to employ a professional photographer (preferably me!) to shoot your listings and now you want to know what happens next. When showing your homes in the best light possible, you should subscribe to the “less is more” philosophy.

For interior photography – the home should be tidy, meaning no clutter like magazines, books, remotes, coasters, candles, bric a brac; all these things can be put out of sight. Also, a good vacuuming and dusting never hurt anything. All pet items should be put away as well. Take all the personal items, (photos, kid art, etc) and put these away as well – don’t forget about the refrigerator! Remove everything from the fridge, magnets, calendars…you get the idea. In the bedrooms, all of the beds should be made, kids toys should be put away. Close all the toilet lids in the bathrooms and remove all the toiletries off the counters and empty the wastebaskets. Check for any burned out lights and replace bulbs.

Outside, at the very least, the trash cans should be moved out of sight. Lawns should be mowed and leaves raked. Clean off the driveway, move the cars, take down the Christmas lights from two years ago. Move any ladders, wheelbarrows, yard implements, etc. The truly ambitious can put down fresh mulch and plant flowers.

Follow these simple steps and you will be well ahead of the curve when it comes to marketing your clients homes with awesome, professional photography.

Now get out there and make some money y’all!

Deciding to use a professional real estate photographer to market YOU!

In these trying times, realtors need every advantage they can to market their listings successfully. Oddly enough, the one thing that isn’t utilized enough (as evidenced through a quick perusal of the MLS), is professional photography.

I wanted to discuss this a little bit, but I’m going to shine a different light on it, one you may not expect. I submit that the biggest reason to hire a professional photographer for your listings is not so much to market the listing, but to market yourself.

I imagine you would be aghast if you went to a fine restaurant and they served you on paper plates with plastic picnic ware.  Or,  if you went to your (insert professional service person’s here) office and there was beat up, broken furniture to sit on.

Putting your best face forward is crucial in business and realtors know this better than anybody! Experienced realtors make professional photography a high priority in their marketing budget not just to market the listing, but to market themselves as an outstanding agent doing everything they can for their clients. There’s all the advertising in the world – but advertising that your are an average agent will not do any more than convey the message of mediocrity.

Many average realtors think they can’t afford to use  professional photography. Successful, top-producing realtors  don’t see how they can afford not to.

Something to think about when it’s presented like that, huh? Take a look at my website while you think about it and when you’re ready to take the next step – give me a call.
